never again the war!

Press release of Pax Christi Italia – http://www.paxchristi.it/?p=16328

"War is an absolute evil and must be 'repudiated', as stated in our Constitution in Art. 11: it must no longer be considered a possible choice on the part of politics and diplomacy ".

So we wrote in a press release from 24 May 2019, (http://www.paxchristi.it/?p=15462) denouncing the maneuvers for an upcoming war on Iran.

Now the latest tragic events risk overwhelming not only the Middle East but the whole world in a new "adventure of no return". The risk of a war whose developments and consequences are difficult to predict is tragically real.

Pax Christi Italia joins the voice of Pax Christi USA"The Trump administration's decision to assassinate Iranian general Soleimani on Iraqi soil, by means of a drone attack, had the only effect of causing an escalation of tension in the Middle East and endangering the lives of men, innocent women and children who will pay for the retaliation that will take place between the United States and Iran ".

We are witnessing the crumbling of the foundations of international coexistence, HIM-HER-IT, international law… The logic of the strongest seems to prevail, of the most armed. We cannot accept this! Also today, as we wrote in May, We wonder: "What other hellish situation could arise from the looming war on Iran? The war in Libya, for example, he didn't really teach anything? We therefore want to light a new furnace in which to burn humanity and hopes for peace and peaceful coexistence?”.

We cannot stand helpless and watch. We must shout our no to war and its preparation, all the more worrying with the potential of nuclear weapons, today available to the powerful of the world. And we know that there are bases in Italy too, like Sigonella or Aviano, which may be directly involved in an upcoming war.

This is why we would like the voices of all the people who believe in peace to be united, to ask for concrete choices of peace.

We reiterated this a few days ago in Cagliari on the occasion of the conference and the National March for Peace, invoking disarmament and denouncing the presence of atomic bombs on Italian territory and the new ones arriving B61-12.

Let's ask:

– to the Church and Christian communities not only to pray for peace, indispensable thing, but also to denounce in a loud and clear way the madness of war and to join their voices with Pope Francis: the use of atomic energy for war purposes is, Today more than ever, a crime, not only against man and his dignity, but against any possibility of a future in our common home. The use of atomic energy for war purposes is immoral, just as the possession of atomic weapons is immoral…”.

– to the Parliament and the Italian Government concrete and immediate political choices of peace, not to be involved in the war and to be accomplices:

– not to give the availability of the US bases in Italy;

– to block the purchase of the F35;

– to withdraw our soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan;

– to give more power to the UN and not to NATO;

– to consult with the UN on the security of the Italian and international contingent in Lebanon;

– to adhere immediately to the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty We cannot accept that people say they want peace in words and in fact war are prepared, which, as always, is paid for above all by the weakest and the innocent.We reject the war, we cry out hope!
