Premise

In order to spread a critical view of the birth and work of the "International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia" (ICTY), JUGOCOORD ONLUS announces for the year 2020-2021 two awards.

 1.Object

Prizes will be awarded to essays or scientific articles, unpublished on the expiry date of the Call, dedicated to the critical analysis of the work of the ICTY. Works will be accepted, written in Italian or English, not exceeding in length 50 folders (90thousand jokes, spaces included).

The texts must make a significant contribution to the study and dissemination of the subject, probing the genesis and action of the ICTY. In particular, in accordance with the intentions of the creator of the award[1], the activity of the ICTY will be evaluated as a tool of great importance in the context of the international event that led to the end of the Federal Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia and then of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro).

The works will be subjected to an initial examination by the Jury, who will verify its interest under one or more of the following profiles:

– legitimacy (of the institution itself);

– impartiality (in the formulation of accusations and in the imposition and execution of sentences);

– contribution to peace between the parties in conflict on the territory of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia;

– protection of the rights of the accused (including: vita, salute, defence, just treatment of sentence);

– any contradictions with the principles, as applicable in international law, sovereignty of states and self-determination of peoples (discriminated against).

Those works will be particularly appreciated that, while scientifically rigorous and thorough, however, they are suitable for disseminating the topic also to non-specialists, avoiding mere jurisprudential reviews and excessive technicalities.
