Giulietto Chiesa, a man who loved peace

up to the last at the forefront of the struggle to implement the Article 11 of the Constitution, to bring Italy out of the war system

Giulietto Chiesa died a few hours after concluding, on the 75th anniversary of the Liberation and the end of the Second World War, the International Conference of 25 April Let's get rid of the war virus.

Since we formed the No War No Born Committee five years ago, we have been with him in the continuous effort to provide truthful information on the real causes of the wars; for a sovereign and neutral Italy, outside NATO and any other military alliance; for the total elimination of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction; to put an end to the waste of enormous resources destined for weapons and wars; for a new economic and social system that eliminates the causes that are at the origin of wars.

We recall the last words pronounced by Giulietto Chiesa at the conclusion of the Conference on 25 April, at the end of his entire life's political commitment. Truthful words, crude, on the gravity of the moment we live. Words that call for the struggle to regain constitutional freedoms:

«We have reached the end of this marathon, which I hope was interesting for all of you. Many new things have been exhibited, with other new international voices.

We say goodbye, a physical goodbye when we can meet again, even if I believe it will not be easy to regain the constitutional freedoms that have been suspended, and we know why.

There are already signs that show us the difficult situations in which we will have to fight to regain the freedoms that have been suspended.

We need to know that the situation will be much more critical, much more dramatic.

An economic crisis of gigantic proportions looms that will involve and overwhelm (topic) Italy.

Those who are using this situation as a tool to hit the weakest, and the weakest have already been hit, those who hold the staffs of command will use them, and therefore it will be up to us, all together, build a barrier and a capacity for redemption. We need to think of a different policy to get out of this situation.

This conference took place online, but there will be and we will have to make sure that there are other moments of struggle and political combat that are physical,  where you can find yourself and look in the eye».
